I mentioned a while back that I’ve been creating “mood boards” for ideas that I’ve been mashing around in my head for each room in our house. I haven’t really shared many/any of our decorating plans, except for a teaser or two. I guess today’s your lucky day {if ya get a kick out of the home decor stuff!}
I’ll remind you of the state our kitchen was in when we stepped in the door…
And here’s what it looks like now…
And here is my ever-evolving mood board for the kitchen area…
And you’re probably needing a bit more of an explanation, hmm.
- At first, I planned a light yellow paint, but we’ve since decided on River Reed {light green shade} for the walls.
- Our current countertops are HIDEOUS. They have {I kid you not} boomerangs stenciled all over them. Eugene swears are straight out of the bowling ally. Therefore, we want to do a dark black/slate colored countertop – fingers crossed for granite if our budget doesn’t get busted with many more unexpected expenses {i.e. water softener/iron filter coming to over $3k – yuck.}
- We bought a new faucet and plan to buy an under mount sink also.
- We plan to paint the cabinets white, and as you know, we went with an open shelving concept for one set of cabinets to show off our wedding Fiesta Ware.
- The gorg. green glass mosaic tile that I teased you with earlier will be our backsplash
- We’ll probably go with a stainless drawer pull and cabinet handles, like these from Menards maybe.
- I also have big plans for a chalkboard wall that I’m super pumped about. I think it will be awesome to be able to write to-do lists, Bible scriptures, menus, and little notes right on our kitchen wall.

- We’re toying with the idea of adding a small butcher-block island. It’s a toss up right now.
- Oh, and I bought these super cute cereal canisters for Walmart {$6-ish!} that make the boomerang countertop ever so slightly less hideous, despite the disgusting stained paint behind them.
- The floor’s proving to be the biggest mental road block for me. I have no clue what we’re going to do for it.
And the Dining Area is basically the same since it’s in the same room…
I want to make some type of chandelier for over the island and/or the dining table and some shelves or frames.
So there you have it! Just a few ideas I have brewing for our house. :)
I love the idea of a chalkboard wall! I have always thought it would be cool to do that :)
