Parents, party & paint.

Friday, I spent a couple hours right after work to knock out painting one of the living room walls. And once Eugene finished with his baseball practice, we headed to celebrate his cousin’s 14th birthday. With a candy theme, we got a big sugar fix for to start the weekend.

I woke up early Saturday morning to tackle the remaining three walls in our living room. We already painted one coat using problem solving primer {see this post for more info}, and I’m happy to say, it only took two coats of Olympic’s Premium “Winter Wheat” colored paint to get the job done. I thought for sure that we we were going to have to do a million coats to cover the awful black/maroon color. I took a pick of the two colors side by side {the hall is still deep maroon…saving it for another day.}

Here’s some process pics.

We plan to paint all the trim white {including the fireplace trim}, and also build a shelf for a real mantle.

And, so I have the details saved, here’s the winter wheat numbers…

I finished the first coat on Saturday afternoon and started on the second coat five hours later. But once I finished the second coat on one wall, we realized that the we were getting a few weird bubbles and the paint wasn’t drying smooth. It was pretty slight, just a few blisters that looked like this, but not nearly this bad.

A quick google search later, we confirmed that it was almost certainly because of the crazy humidity going on in Ohio right now. We’ve had so much rain many cities are flooding.  So we stopped there to let it dry overnight. We headed to Eugene’s parents for a visit with his fam Saturday evening. A few Way too many girl scout cookies & a competitive game of Apples to Apples later, we were back home to rest up for the next day.

Luckily, Sunday morning when we checked out our paint situation we were just left with three blisters that I was able to sand & repaint easily. We finished the second & last coat after church Sunday and finished just in time to enjoy a nice dinner at my parents’ place that evening.

Although the pup was slacking in his Vanna White duties this weekend, I’ll show ya how the room looks at this moment – the current “after” so to speak.

We’re picking up my parents’ old TV armoire {thanks Mom & Dad!} to replace this Ikea coffee table that currently holds our ESPN TV. ;)

Here’s the entry way with a super dirty rug…IKEA trip is on the calendar to replace this bad boy.

View from the fireplace. See how dark that hallway is with the old maroon {left corner}!

Entry into the kitchen & area that will be opened up to be a wide doorway in a while.

And how about a side-by-side comparison for a before & after.

I’m liking the brighter, happier color, & it’s really amazing how much larger the room looks now!
