Roadside changing table {part II}.

Onto part II of the riveting changing table re-do. If you haven’t read part I, check it out. After painting the wood bright orange, I painted the shelf pieces white and reinstalled ‘em…

I hada sheet on top of the shelf to see if I wanted to use fabric to cover the shelves. Nah, not the look I’m going for…

I went to Hobby Lobby and found some really bright and colorful scrapbook paper – $0.59 a piece, and an additional 40% off. Less than five bucks later, I was at home with a challenge to decoupage the shelves with some pretty floral…

I knew there would be seams on where the papers touched, but with such a busy pattern I didn’t think it’d be really noticeable. Plus, I knew the shelves would be covered with a changing pad, baskets, etc..

I added some mod podge and used a foam paintbrush to spread a thin layer down first, added the paper, and then followed with a few more layers of mod podge on top of that {letting each layer dry before starting on the next}.

The seams are pretty noticeable here, but not once you’re more than a foot away…

I struggled with some bubbles at the beginning as you can see below. {I’m no mod podge expert.} But by the last top coat, the bubbles were virtually nonexistent.

And here it is in all it’s glory…

I love how it pulls the colors from my DIY mobile

Oh, and here are some new cloth diapers I bought that are just as bright and beautiful as the floral shelves! {More on that later.}

See, the seams and the tiny bubbles are hardly noticeable…

I like the sheen that the mod podge adds to the shelves…

And, it wouldn’t be a true re-do post without a before & after photo comparison…

So, what do you think? Like the bold, or is it too much color for ya? {I actually really like how it turned out!}

  1. I absolutely LOVE this. You are so creative. The baby's nursery looks like it is straight out of a Vera Bradley catalog. I love the bright colors! I know she will just LOVE it...and when she is ready for a big girl bed, you already have a fun, mature room for her. I love love LOVE it!

  2. Ah, thanks, Abby! That's fun to hear someone else likes it! Sometimes I go with my crazy plans and never know how it really looks to anyone but me! :) I appreciate the kind words.

  3. Love it! So here's the question on my mind... Did you get Fuzzibunz or BumGenius? Or another kind?

  4. Amber, I'll do a full post on it, but the diapers pictured are from here: http://www.bonnibuns.com.au/ I got them for a groupon-type of deal for just about $15 per diaper. I bought 12, and my plan is to buy Bum Genius all-in-ones with velcro for the rest (an additional 1-2 dozen.) My sister uses the Bum Genius and loves them, so that's why I feel comfortable trying them out. The nice thing about the bonnibuns is that they can be a swim diaper without the insert too...Bum Genius didn't say that. So, I figured it's worth a try. :)

I love to hear from people reading my blog. If you don't mind, please put your name so I know who you are. :) Thanks so much for sharing!
