Cutting glass.

So Eugene & I attempted to test out my new bottle cutter kit that I bought to make a chandelier.

Not so bad for the first try…

Then I tried three more times, and it went downhill from there…

IMG_7013

I managed to salvage one bottle to use as a candle holder on my “mantle”…

I need to bring home some more bottles from some weddings at work so I can practice, cause I definitely haven’t perfected the art of glass cutting yet!

The pup and Fall.

I’ve been super tired after work lately…thus, no real house projects taking place. But, do not fear, some things never change: the pup’s just as goofy as ever.

I raked some leaves and lots of pine needles that had fallen in our front yard. Apparently, the pup has a serious attraction to piles of pine needles. {Weirdo.}

Then he decided that rather than rolling in pine needles, it would be even more fun to take a swim in the cold, dirty, huge rain ditch in the front of our yard. Mmmm, perfect.

IMG_6995

Seriously, pup? It’s cold, dirty, smelly, and just plain not cool. He was not easy to drag out of there. Pup loves his water.

I’ve given this dog two baths in about four days. Fun stuff.

Fancier DIY coasters.

I upped the ante for my DIY tile coasters. Added some scrapbook paper and a little mod podge. I like the results…

IMG_6247

Yep, we’re still rockin’ the super cool boomerang countertops with cabinet paint streaks. I know you’re jealous.

Isn’t this vase/flower container cool? It’s covered in bark.

IMG_6310

I like shiny things.

One down side of having a blog – spoiler alert needed for DIY gifts. {Casey, you must forget this post come December.} ;)

Pumpkin carving.

Our small group got together this weekend for some chili, cornbread, puppy chow, pumpkin cookies, apples and caramel, and hot apple cider. YUM. We also sharpened our creativity and carved pumpkins.

IMG_6949

IMG_6952

My least favorite part…the slimy guts.

IMG_6954

With the help of my friend, Libby {she pretty much did it all for me}, my approach was the lazier version of carving – poking holes in my pumpkin with a hammer and a screwdriver. Check out the ghost of a hammer in the picture below…

Here it is lit inside…

IMG_6960

And this young woman just dominated the carving contest. She did this free-hand! I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this isn’t her first pumpkin.

IMG_6961

I was thoroughly impressed with the skill level of our group. Some seriously good pumpkins!

Here’s the dark shot…

Here’s mine on our front step…

And lit at night…

It was a fun time for sure. :)

Secret Keeper Girl event.

I was asked to take some pictures for a really neat event our church hosted. It’s a national event called Secret Keeper Girl Pajama Party. In case you’re wondering what/who is a “Secret Keeper Girl”, I’ll let their website clarify it for you:

Well, she is lots of things! A Secret Keeper Girl values modesty, she surrounds herself with wise friends and she embraces Godly beauty. So, she keeps the deepest secrets of her beauty for just one man. But she also knows that she can share all of her heart secrets with her mom at any time. The coolest thing for you to know is that a Secret Keeper Girl is a masterpiece created by God. So whether you are new to our site or a SKG pro who’s been to an event, read “Secret Keeper” or already had eight great dates with your momma, you, sweet girl, are a Secret Keeper Girl because you are a true masterpiece created by God’s hand.

The event was really quite amazing. Tons of energy and fun for the moms & daughters, some challenging heart-testing times, and some beautifully love-filled moments. Here are some of the photos I took…

IMG_6499

There was a loud “Wooooooo!” for every girl that came in the door. :)

IMG_6571b

Some ladies from our church were asked to dress like TV moms… “meet Jane Jetson!”

IMG_6629

Loved the PJs & slippers…

IMG_6680b

Some precious time with God…

IMG_6691b

IMG_6694b

Powerful scriptures were shared about how God loves us, makes us beautiful, sees us as His daughters and delights in us…

IMG_6683b

Every girl got a bracelet for their mom’s to tie on their wrist and remind them that they are loved and that only God’s opinion is what matters & He finds us truly beautiful…

IMG_6696b

IMG_6700b

My favorite times were when moms & daughters were asked to hug and cuddle close and share with each other. Lots of tears from both moms and daughters. Definitely God moments…

IMG_6727b

IMG_6732b

There was a game of guessing photos of celebrities without make up and Photoshoped photos. The girls found it quite fun…

IMG_6806b

We were blessed with a great turn out…

IMG_6825b

There was even a fashion show of modest, yet trendy, clothing modeled by girls from our church…

IMG_6855b

The Secret Keep Girl leader had some really cool tests/tips like the “raise & praise” to use to determine whether the clothing is appropriate {Check it out on their website here.}

And the event ended with a bang – colorful streamers!

IMG_6895b

It was a truly neat event, and I’m just praying that the great words shared will stay on the hearts of the mothers and daughters for quite some time.

Also, speaking of prayer, tomorrow {Thursday} is a really big day for Eugene & me for multiple reasons. I would appreciate any prayers you’re willing to give for us. Thank you {so much.}

Lock it up.

We finally changed our locks – something we should have done right when we moved in, but have procrastinated for almost 9 months. Oops.

We bought a foreclosed home, so we really have no clue who had keys to our house. Thus, the need for new locks.

It took me longer than I expected to replace them, but it wasn’t too terribly tricky. The only difficult part was when the deadbolt lock wouldn’t line up perfectly with the existing hole in the frame. Eugene swooped in to rescue me & figured out a way to match it. {Gold star award for the day.}
